A day at home

After the return from holidays, I spent one whole day at home. Huraaaah!

Just so that I don’t relax too much, I packed my bags and flew off to the country well known for it’s vast spaces, low prices and virtually neverending fun.

Yes, you guessed it right, I’m talking about Luxembourg.

To make things even better, I’ll be spending 2 weeks in Lux and 2 weeks at home over the period of next 3 months. Double Huraaah!

All that assuming I don’t break down from exhaustion trying to keep up with all the entertainment this country is famous for, in which case I might have to abort the whole thing.

And by the way, have you noticed that the flag of Luxembourg looks like the Croatian one with washed-out colors and coat of arms lost in a washing machine?

On a less sarcastic note, it appears that so far I have been to 29 different countries, which makes rather measly 12,8% of the total count

We are back!

Vik
Vik

After 10 days of running around airports, hotels and various places we came back home. All in all, it was fun, exhausting and, as usual, too short.

Hard disks are loaded with photos and short movies so it will take some time to filter it out (a lot of garbage there) and put together after which we’ll upload it somewhere so that you can take a look at some nice things from the edge of Europe (to mine and all of my geography teachers’ embarrassment, only now did I notice how much closer Iceland is to say, Greenland, than it is to continental Europe).

Iceland- part 3

Dettifoss

So, internet access works OK now since the hotel chain we are using provides free WiFi. That should take care of that at least until we reach Reykjavik again.

Today we were a bit more lucky with the weather so we “only” had occassional rain but no fog which was killing us yesterday,
We started from Eligsstadir today, covering Dettifos waterfall, Husavik (the whale watching hub in the north) and via beautiful lake Myvatn reached the second largest city on Iceland – Akureyri.

Tomorrow we are headed towards Westfjords, base of which we are sleeping at.

If only the weather would spare us the problems we had yesterday with the fog.

Iceland-part 2

Although somewhat expected, internet is not very accessible on Iceland.
It doesn’t matter though since by the time we reach the hotel for the day, we are both dead tired.

The first day after Reykjavik we went onto Golden Circle route covering geysers, waterfalls etc. all the time suffering from strong wind which just wouldn’t stop.

The second day we drove off-road a bit trying to reach some remote place, but had to turn around at some point since I was afraid to cross the small river with our car. Besides that, we saw some nice waterfalls and climbed one too. Additionally, we suffered some more wind on the black sand beach at Vik and enjoyed photographing ice blocks floating on the river under the full moon.

Today was really bad since most of the day we droe through seemingly never-ending fog. Very frustrating.

For tomorrow we have to go to Myvatn lake but apart from that we still have to figure out where to go and what to see. One option is to reach the Arctic Circle but I’m afraid it might prove a bit too ambitious for just one day.

Now, off to download the photos ๐Ÿ™‚

Reykjavik

Upon the arrival to Copenhagen we’ve checked into our little hotel and went out for a walk which ended around 10 PM and culminated in collapsing into our beds. Hotel was actually quite nice but everything is crammed into unbelievable small room.

Today started by getting up at 5 AM. No comment. Thanks to precise train schedule in Denmark and the fact I know my way around Copenhagen quite well we arrived to the airport quite quickly, and thanks to Frequent Flyer card we managed to do the check-in even quicker (and no, I’m not on Star Alliance payroll but it’s hard to describe the advantage of getting checked-in in few minutes as opposed to waiting in cue for an hour)

While Branka has watched a movie and read brochures during our 3 hour flight, trained during cotinuous flying I slept through the whole thing.

To our great delight, the airport bus dropped us off in front of the hotel which turned out to be nicer than expected, but then again with the price like that, it better.

As usual, we left the luggage in the hotel and went out. As for the city itself, don’t let anybody tell you how great Reykjavik is. It’s not. While it is interesting to see a new place, it is really a bit bigger town good part of which is quite unattractive. The temperature of about 12 degrees with constant wind didn’t help much (I was just wondering what my body might be thinking considering only 48 hours ago it was “enjoying” 30+ temperature in Zagreb)

We also had one of the worst pizzas ever during the day. It was waaaay to oily and we hated the Blue Cheese we chose to have in it (still feel it in the stomach),

Now it’s around 10 PM and I plan to wake Branka up since she dozed off, so that we can check theร‚ย  famous Reykjavik weekend night life which can supposedly be quite interesting (key words are: blondes, alcohol, promiscuity). All that for the sake of academic curiosity ๐Ÿ™‚

Tomorrow again, getting up early, picking up a car and hitting the road. The idea is to go through so called Golden Circle.

On our way

So, we are on our way to Iceland. We are quite tired as we had to get up pretty early and considering we have a 3 hour gap between flights here in Vienna, we’ll probably be dead by the end of the day.

The start of the day was quite stressful since we arrived to the airport quite late and there gazillion people waiting at the check-in. Same thing with passport and security controls.

It’s amazing how many people are flying on Thursday, and the dismal organization didn’t help much.

Now we are enjoying a cup of coffee at the Vienna airport and then off to my home away from home – Copenhagen
